History of MPG.
Maritime Program Group (MPG) began in 2010 when three specialty entities - Maritime General Agency, Marine MGA, and Windward Marine Underwriters - united and became the largest program underwriter of Recreational Marine Insurance in the United States.
Now operating as Maritime Program Group, we provide a complete suite of Recreational, Inland, and Ocean Marine Insurance solutions – and Private Client Services – to our network of brokers.
- Maritime General Agency was founded in 1992 as an MGA for New Hampshire Insurance Company (a division of Lexington Insurance). Maritime General Agency’s focus was historically on the Recreational Marine industry, specifically on Marinas, Boat Dealers, Yacht Clubs, Private Pleasure Boats/Yachts, Mega-yachts, and Charter Vessels. The program was underwritten and expanded on a national basis, and grew significant market share in each of its segments throughout the United States.
- Marine MGA, Inc was founded in 1990 by Ed Colburn and Bob Gallagher as a marine specialty MGA with underwriting programs with North American Specialty, Royal, Navigators, Travelers and several other carriers. Marine MGA became the clear market leader in the Recreational Marine sector, with a focus on Marinas, Boat Dealers, Yacht Clubs and Boat Builders located on the eastern seaboard. Marine MGA’s Inland Marine business lines include Transportation, Contractors Equipment, and Builders Risk. Marine MGA’s Ocean Marine products include Commercial Passenger and Charter Vessels, Private Pleasure Boats/Yachts, as well as Wet Builders Risk and Excess P&I placements.
- Windward Marine Underwriters (WMU) was formed in 2002 as an underwriter for Chubb Insurance Company, with a focus on yachts valued under $1,000,000. WMU became a wholesaler for Chubb’s Marina, Boat Dealer, and Boat Builder insurance programs.
